Geoffrey
Notkin was born in the East Village of New York City, grew up
in London, England, and was savagely bitten by the meteorite bug
at the age of seven.
He is the co-host of Science Channel’s award-winning adventure
series Meteorite Men, and the owner of Aerolite Meteorites
LLC, a company which provides meteorite specimens to collectors,
universities and institutions worldwide. Geoffrey has traveled
to more than 45 countries and is a widely published science writer
and photographer. His work has appeared in Astronomy
magazine, Sky & Telescope, Wired, Meteorite magazine,
Meteoryt (Poland), Mushroom (Germany), TIMA
(Japan), Geotimes, Reader’s Digest, The Village Voice,
New York Press, Tucson Weekly, Mechanical Engineering, American
Theater Arts, Rock & Gem, Seed, Lapidary Journal, Meteorite
Hunting and Collecting Magazine, The Field Guide to Meteors and
Meteorites, and many other national and international publications.
In addition to Meteorite Men he has appeared in documentaries
for PBS, Discovery Channel, The History Channel, National Geographic,
the BBC, A&E, and The Travel Channel. He is the author of
“Meteorwritings”
for Geology.com and “The
Logical Lizard,” a science and arts blog for TucsonCitizen.com.
He is an accomplished artist and musician, a fellow of the Explorers
Club, and a lecturer. He has been a featured guest speaker at
the U. S. Science and Engineering Festival, the Northeast Astronomy
Forum, the Oscar E. Monnig Meteorite Gallery, The Sterling Hill
Mining Museum, and numerous other venues.
Geoffrey was a recipient of a 2010 Telly Award for his work on
Meteorite Men. The minor planet 132904, discovered at
Mount Palomar, was named after him in recognition of his contributions
to science and education, and he is currently at work on a memoir
about his life as a meteorite hunter.
